I spent the last week out on the west coast visiting an old friend in San Diego. Wanting to pack light, I decided on only the Sony RX1RII for the trip. I packed 2 spare batteries and 2 spare cards and was very impressed with how this worked out. Honestly, I was worried more about missing the great west coast sun without film than I was about the performance on the camera. Looking at the images today, no regrets. I didn't shoot a lot, so the battery and 64 GB card lasted just fine. Only swapped to a spare battery one day - and it was towards the end of walking with the camera about 13 hours. That's not bad at all for the way I shoot. If I had been shooting a lot, I am sure it would have drained much more quick.
My entire trip was pretty much based around San Diego county. Home base was my friends restaurant, Bangkok Spices Thai Restaurant in North Park. If you happen to be in the area, stop in and get the Drunken Noodles. You won't regret that. We ate lots of food from all over the county, but honestly, this was my favorite dish of the trip.
Anyhow, we headed out at the crack of dawn each morning and hit some wonderful locations. Here are just some samples from several areas. Weather was the same each and every day. High of 80º and sunny skies. Bummer, eh?
La Jolla, San Diego, California
What an amazing coastline here in La Jolla. Rocky coast, steep cliffs and seals. What more could you ask for? I walked the coast here most of the morning. Watched the seals, talked to the locals, observed a yoga class on the beach. Man, talk about heaven.

Another crazy amazing location was Coronado. I can see why it's such a tourist destination, with the beautiful (haunted) hotel, gorgeous long beaches and stunning sunsets I could easily find myself coming back here again and again.
Imperial Beach, California
This is what I picture when I picture the west coast. This place did not let me down. Big surf, gorgeous light, a long pier and plenty of locals. The end of the pier was dominated by fisherman, while the surrounding water by a slew of surfers. The pier is an awesome vantage point to catch them from all directions.
San Diego, California
I hit various spots throughout the week as well. Mission Beach, North Park, Downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley and quite a bit of time in the Balboa Park. Here are a handful of select images from the areas showing the various faces of San Diego.
All images taken with the Sony RX1RII and used Rebecca Lily presets to process.
